Benchmarks

Speaking with customers, here's the challenge we've identified: performance of your app is relative. Perhaps through updates, you've steadily increased how frequently users launch and use your app. While this is certainly forward progress, how do you know if this is truly "good enough" to keep up with the competition? With Flurry benchmark comparisons, you can answer this question and more.

Flurry has taken the largest dataset in the industry and re-organized it for your benefit. Benchmark comparisons let you compare key usage metrics of your application against calculated benchmarks for any category. Benchmarks are currently available for the following Usage metrics: Session Length, Frequency of Use and User Retention. To easily identify metrics that offer benchmark comparisons, we've placed a blue 'B' next the metric name displayed in the left-hand menu. To view your application metric against different category benchmarks, just select any category from the drop down menu found in the footer of the chart.

Benchmark comparisons are turned on by default, provided that you have added an App Store ID (or Android Market ID, etc.) for your application. This is to ensure that we are categorizing all apps correctly. If you haven’t entered the identifier, you will see the following in the footer of a chart that offers benchmarks:

If you click on the link you will get a pop-up with instructions on how to find your unique application ID and you can enter it right there to immediately enable benchmarking. Below is an example of the pop-up for an iPhone application:
